Mediterranean diet has lots of science but has long been known to leave lots of room for improvement. Michael Greger has had videos on this topic for over a decade. Generally shifting the diet towards less animal-based calories & less refined carbs and towards more whole plant-based foods is widely believed to be an improvement, even without the need for some special obscure specific plant food. There are even specific well-studied diets derived from it, such as MIND. I'm surprised by the choice of a diet based on 1 paper. I notice that the paper used did not test MIND diet nor the WFPB diet used by the Ornish protocol. The Ornish diet (as part of the larger 4-pronged protocol) and the MIND diet both have vastly more evidence than this green-Mediterranean diet, and I generally am skeptical about magical foods. A plant-based food that is never mentioned by any of Michael Greger's material is particularly suspect in my mind as being super niche. FWIW, I'd put my money on an Ornish program compliant diet over green-Mediterranean.
